Microsoft Surface Book vs. Lenovo Yoga 900 – Best Specs and Features
Microsoft has released another “monster” and this time it’s a laptop with a detachable keyboard, the Surface Book will stack against the Lenovo Yoga 900, which is also a 2-in-one laptop, and which replaces the Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro.
Designs, Dimensions and Displays
The Yoga 900 has a starting price of $1,200 and it looks pretty much the same as the Yoga 3 Pro, but it’s 2mm thicker, measuring 14.9mm. It has the same aluminum steel body which is available in three variants of colors: gold, silver and clementine orange, but now, the six watchband-style hinges around the back are matching the rest of the chassis. The YOGA logo is placed in the lid’s top right corner and it’s also found on the bottom right side of the base, it weights 1.3Kg and it has a 13.3-inch QHD+ (3200x1800pixels) IPS screen, supporting 300nits, whose aspect ratio is 16:9.
When it’s used as a laptop, the Surface Book measures 312.3×232.1×13.0-22.8mm and it weights 1.51Kg, and its keyboard has a dynamic fulcrum hinge which is expanding when it’s folded open. The keyboard has also its own battery and graphics card (Nvidia GeForce), while the design of the tablet part is industrial, as it’s made of a magnesium alloy. Its screen is PixelSense supporting a resolution of 3000×2000 pixels which gives a pixel density of 267ppi and it has an aspect ratio of 3:2, you should know that the price of the Surface Book varies from $1,499 to $3,199.
Hardware
The Surface Book is available in two variants of Intel Core Skylake dual-core processors: i5-6300U clocked at 2.4, but whose speed can be increased up to 3.0GHz, and i7-6600U running at 2.6 up to 3.4GHz. The processor is backed by Intel HD Graphics 520 and 8 or 16GB LPDDR3 RAM, while the internal storage is available in options of 128GB, 256GB, 512GB and 1TB, depending on the configuration.
The Yoga 900 has also an Intel Core i7 processor, but it’s the previous version 6500U (15W), it’s backed by Intel HD 520 graphics (24 EUs, Gen 9) and has either 8 or 16GB DDR3L-1600, while the internal memory comes in two variants of 256GB and 512GB (they are SSD from Samsung).
Although both devices come installed with Windows 10, those who want to try the Windows 10 Pro on the Surface Book will have a free 30-day trial.
Cameras, Audio and Batteries
The Surface Book has a 5MP camera on its front side and an 8MP rear camera with 1080p HD video recording capabilities, while the Yoga 900 has only a 1MP front camera.
The Yoga 900 supports a 2.5W JBL stereo and has Dolby Audio Premium audio system which is available on all sides, it’s powered by a 4-cell battery (66Wh).
The Surface Book has a Dolby audio system on its front side and dual microphones on both the front and rear side, the main battery can offer up to 12 hours of playback time.
