Fallout 4 vs The Witcher 3: Which Game Is The Best?
Fallout 4 and The Witcher 3 are two of the biggest, if not the biggest, games to be released this year and both have been prime contenders for awards while they both smash records. Both games are set in the worlds of their own respective series and are large open world role-playing games.
Fallout 4 is the fifth addition to the Fallout series and was developed by Bethesda, set in a post-apocalyptic world after a devastating nuclear war; the player emerges from a vault and being their journey of exploration through the dangerous lands. The Witcher 3 is the third game in The Witcher series and is the final one depicting Geralt of Rivia as he embarks on a mission to deal with the Wild Hunt while continuing his duty as a Witcher by slaying monsters for coin. The settings for these two games couldn’t be more different however they are very alike still; they both allow the player to explore the world and ignore the main storyline as much as they like, the combat in both is diverse, the world’s a huge and they both can have some rather witty dialogue.
There are also quite a few major differences however; The Witcher 3 is set in a fantasy world with magic, mythical creatures and swordfights. Fallout 4 is set after a nuclear war and remains of the future are still in the world including robots, powerful guns, mech suits and, mutants created from the radiation; Fallout 4 could certainly be considered more as a sci-fi game due to that.
The Witcher 3 broke many records for developer CD Projekt RED with over 1.5 million pre-ordered copies and selling over 6 million within the six weeks following the launch; it was also ranked number one in the UK software sales chart for the first week of launch and has won 12 awards across a range of categories including Storytelling, Visual Design and Audio. The Witcher 3 has also scored over 90% on all platforms on Metacritic and received several 10/10 ratings from reviewers.
Fallout 4 has not been available for as long as The Witcher 3 however it’s also broken a few records and has been nominated for some rewards. Fallout 4 sold 1.2 million copies on Steam within its first 24 hours of release with the game breaking the record for having the most concurrent online players in a Steam game not developed by Valve Corporation; previously GTAV held the record. In total it shipped around 12 million units within its first 24 hours of sale across all platforms. While Fallout 4 has not yet won any awards it was nominated for several at The Game Awards 2015 including Best Role Playing Game and Game of the Year. Most reviewers gave the game a 9/10 with Metacritic giving it 80% on all platforms.
Both games are certainly brilliant in their own right and with their own fan base; for RPG fans both the games should not be missed and they certainly are two of the best games to be released in 2015, though in terms of awards and ratings Witcher 3 may be considered slightly better by some.
