The Elder Scrolls 6 seems more likely than ever

While Bethesda hasn’t openly confirmed that Elder Scrolls 6 is in development, there have been a lot of hits online that suggest it is such as a Ubisoft survey, asking gamers which upcoming game they were most looking forwards to, which listed ‘Skyrim 2’ as a game. This doesn’t mean the game is confirmed to be in development however but it is very likely Bethesda is looking to continue The Elder Scrolls series now that Fallout 4 has been released to the world.

There is quite a bit of speculation going on right now about a release date or release period for Elder Scrolls 6 with some suggesting 2016 however with the recent release of Fallout 4 this may be a little hopeful thinking; Bethesda does not typically work on two major games at the same time. In an interview with the Telegraph, Pete Hines explained that there will not be a release date any time soon and he also rejected the rumours suggesting the game is based on Morrowwind or Oblivion. A release in 2017 would seem more likely than in 2016 as Bethesda will also be working on DLC for Fallout 4 which may slow down development.

What isn’t being considered by many is that Elder Scrolls Online was released last year and while it may not have been developed by Bethesda they are still working very closely with ZeniMax so it’s possible it’s taking time away from ES6. It could even mean that Bethesda will leave the Elder Scrolls series for a few years longer to work on other game series; it could but it’s probably unlikely this would be the case.

Where the next ES takes place is surrounded with rumours as fans hope to visit other areas in Tamriel. The most popular rumour suggests that we could be seeing Elder Scrolls: Redguard as the next game however, Elder Scrolls Adventures: Redguard exists and following the series trend it seems unlikely it will be set in the same place. There are other possibilities however which could make sense for the alleged ‘Skyrim 2’ title it’s been dubbed; if the next game is a sequel to Skyrim then it’s likely the game will be set Elswryr or Valenwood. Of course there are plenty of fans hoping for it to be set in Argonia also which could also be a potential location even if ES6 is sequel to Skyrim.

Elder Scrolls fans have been hoping for a multiplayer game and are looking to ES6 as a potential candidate for it; so far Bethesda has made no comments about multiplayer or single player so this could certainly be possibility for ES6 or for a future ES game. Elder Scrolls Online does exist however and it’s suffered the same problems that other online games suffer such as the narrative not being taken as seriously and of course bugs. If ESO has shown anything it’s that multiplayer and Elder Scrolls may not produce a game that matches the hype of fans.

Elder Scrolls 6 is most certainly coming at some point in the future but with Bethesda keeping us in the dark about it, we can only guess a release period. Bethesda only announced Fallout 4 a few months before the game went on sale so it could go the same way for the next Elder Scrolls game. Hopefully we’ll have more news and hints from Bethesda in the coming years, following the release trend for the ES series we should be seeing a new game very soon.
